6 ways to stay motivated and survive until Christmas

On top of a mountain

Christmas is creeping up on us, along with an attractive few days off. However it can still feel quite far away and it is possible that you are in need of a little push to get you through to turkey time. The key to being successful and happy is to remain motivated and to remember why you are putting in all the work you are. We have put together some advice on how to do this.

Goals

It is a pretty well known fact that working toward a goal makes you more likely to succeed, and goals also work as an excellent to do list. Set a few goals that you know you need to or want to achieve by Christmas and make sure you are ticking them off as you go. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your progress right in front of you.

Say no

If you have set a timeline on what you are working for, odds are you do not have a lot of time left over beyond that. So when you are all of a sudden being invited for nights out or asked to do favours by friends, you need to learn how to say no to some. If they truly are friends they will totally understand you having to put your education first for a while.

Outside inspiration

Sometimes it can feel like no one understands what you are going through or struggling in the same way you are. This is when it is great to have a friend on the ready to build you up and make sure you keep your eyes on your goals. There is also a multitude of motivational images on the Internet - sometimes that is all you need.

No distractions

This might go without saying, but it is important not to get distracted from what you are doing while you are doing it. Distractions can be anything from loud TV sets or friendly pets to faux-helpful family members. Know that there is a time and a place for having these things around and your study time is not it. It might also be helpful to know that there are free resources on the Internet that allow you to block certain sites for certain amounts of time.

Get organised

Keep a clean space around you at all times. It is so much easier to focus in a room that is kept at least moderately clean than trying to study in a pile of dirty washing on the floor. Devote some of your time to tidying up every now and then and benefit from a clearer mind as well.

Rewards

After all of the hard work you put in, make sure you reward yourself for it. Buy that new computer game or those shoes you have wanted, go for a couple of drinks with friends - whatever you desire. Use these rewards as motivators for the time you spend working and soon enough you will find that work becomes a lot easier when you have something to look forward to.
