Claire Larquetoux, Partner (Audit and Advisory)
How did you find out about Mazars and why did you choose them?
I first heard about Mazars at a graduate recruitment fair at university. I was initially attracted to the firm because it stood out as being different from both the Big 4 and other mid tier firms – I was looking for an environment which offered exposure to large and interesting clients but also an opportunity to take on responsibility early. Having studied in Paris for a year as part of my degree, I was also attracted to the opportunity of working with French clients and using my language skills. At the interview and assessment day I really liked the friendly atmosphere and the fact that partners were involved and interested in meeting the new graduates, and this is ultimately why I chose Mazars over other offers I had received.
Tell me about the variety of work you’ve done, and your most interesting experience?
During my 13 years with the firm I have worked with a variety of businesses from owner managed to large and listed global organisations. I have also worked across a range of industry sectors from advertising to manufacturing to insurance. The great thing about a firm of this size is the variety you get as a trainee, with specialism coming later as you move through the manager grades and naturally develop specific skills or sector knowledge. This breadth of experience is not usually possible at a Big 4 firm. Although I have always been in the audit team, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of major transactions such as acquisitions and companies floating on the stock market – this included a trip to New York for due diligence on a major book publisher, and several months in Milan for the listing of an Italian fashion designer (including attending their show during Milan fashion week!)
What’s the benefit of staying with Mazars in the long term?
The reason I have stayed at Mazars from being a trainee through to partner is that the firm has always provided me with new challenges and opportunities to develop in my career. This comes from the fact that Mazars is growing significantly both in the UK and internationally, so there are both new pieces of client work and also interesting internal projects and initiatives. It is inspiring to be part of a firm with ambition, and to be able to really contribute towards this.
