A day in the life of... Oliver Simms

Assistant Auditor (Year 1)

In my final year at university, I decided that I wanted to work in the public sector. I studied classics at university so I was pleased that the NAO accepts any degree discipline.  The job appealed to me because of the insight it would give me in to the workings of government and the opportunity to make a positive contribution to how public money is spent. In my first two months in the job, I have worked on a project looking at government services overseas that has enhanced my understanding of how government works. I'll be honest and say I didn’t really know what to accept doing the ACA. The exams are challenging but at the same time rewarding, especially as you go through the process with your fellow trainees so there is plenty of support.
