Accounts Semi-Senior at Broomfield and Alexander

Accountancy appealed to me because it is not restrictive – there are so many avenues you can take within the profession depending on your interests, skill and aptitude. As an Accounts Semi-Senior, a typical day for me includes auditing, preparing end of year and management accounts and preparation of VAT returns. I like getting the opportunity to meet a lot of different people and forming relationships with clients. I also like the variety of work that I do, as it gives me a lot of experience.

My degree is in maths, and after learning about the accountancy industry at a university careers fair, it was the flexible and unrestrictive nature of a career in this field that appealed to me. I chose to study the ACCA Qualification for similar reasons. It offers real flexibility, allowing you to study at your own pace. You can easily move sectors due to the flexibility, and ACCA’s reputation and recognition makes a move easy too.

My advice to anyone thinking about a career in accountancy is - get some experience! It’s the best way to decide where to start with your accounting career.

Looking to the future, I’m aiming high. I want to continually challenge myself throughout my career and progress as far as opportunities allow. I know that with an ACCA Qualification to my name, those opportunities will increase. The prestigious nature of ACCA and the vast training required to become a member makes me proud to be a part of the association.
