For nearly two centuries Heriot-Watt has followed the values of George Heriot and James Watt – two giants of industry and commerce who gave the university its name – focusing on practical, applied learning.
The Edinburgh-based university’s strengths lie mainly in the physical sciences, mathematics, business and management, engineering and the built environment. It has fostered interdisciplinary teaching and research, with a battery of employment-related degrees, which invariably produce a good rating for graduate prospects.
