University of Strathclyde

At 25,000 square metres, Strathclyde’s new £89m Technology and Innovation Centre is the largest in the UK and the embodiment of the mission the university has had since 1796: to be a “place of useful learning”.

More specifically, it is aiming to be one of the world’s leading technological universities. Professor Sir Jim McDonald, the vice-chancellor, has been seeking improvements in research to achieve this goal, and spectacular results in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (Ref) showed that he had got them.
