Centre for Partnership

About Centre for Partnership

It’s never been a more exciting time to get into the housing and construction environment, with affordable housing high on the agenda within the UK and an ever changing political climate.  Housing and construction roles are varied and rewarding, and people who work within the sector find it hard to imagine being elsewhere.  The sector is investing in its future leaders, and the GEM Programme provides graduates with a fantastic grounding to ensure your career development gets off to a flying start.  Our results speak for themselves with 62% of the 120 graduates recruited onto our programme since 2009 still working in the construction and housing sector today and with many of our past GEMs having been promoted into senior management roles.

The GEM Programme works with housing and construction organisations throughout the UK supporting graduates to kick-start their careers. We take graduates with any degree and do not require relevant experience for most roles, as your values and fit within our partner organisations is their most important consideration.  If you’re the right candidate you will be given the support, skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications you need to progress quickly in your chosen field.

The 12 month programme is intense; involves paid work at graduate level, a professional qualification and a wealth of amazing, learning and networking experiences that you just wouldn’t get anywhere else. The roles are up to 2 years with planned induction and fast track development programmes, and you can work with major players in the housing and construction sector, with roles in and links to organisations such as United Living, Orbit Group, Contour Homes, Incommunities, Regenda, Salix Homes, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Wheatley Group and many more.

We have roles available across the sector including research, new build, development, asset management, general management and trainee housing officer roles. GEMs have access to pastoral support from the Centre for Partnership team as well as a workplace mentor.

Throughout the programme GEMs undergo extensive leadership and personal development delivered through our innovative Future Housing Leaders programme. The delivery of this is combined with the delivery of the Chartered Institute of Housing qualification that GEMs will complete throughout their time on the programme over a number of events we call ‘GEMshacks.’ We guarantee these events will inspire you to learn more about the sector you’re working in, and help you to complete your professional qualification. The qualification covers modules such as Buildings, Communities & the Environment; Housing Law; Housing Policy; and Professional Practice Skills for Housing.

This years’ GEMshacks will be based around themes including: Homelessness, Regeneration and 21st Century Communities.

Through being a part of the GEM community, you will establish relationships and networks across the sector with a wide variety of people, and receive no end of support and encouragement as you start to forge your career.
