Lloyd's

MAKE THE FUTURE POSSIBLE.

Lloyd’s is the world’s specialist insurance market. We insure some of the world’s most complex risks, from hurricanes to terrorism, sporting events to space travel, and celebrity body parts to Santa’s beard. However unpredictable the risks we cover are, they do sometimes occur, and when they do, our reputation for paying valid claims means that we are trusted to cover the risks that others can’t. In doing so, we enable things to happen today and fuel the progress of tomorrow.

There are two parts to Lloyd’s: the market and the Corporation. Like any market, we enable those with something to sell – underwriters providing insurance coverage – to make contact with those who want to buy – brokers, working on behalf of their clients who are seeking insurance. The Corporation is there to oversee, support and promote the market, Based in London at One Lime Street, Lloyd’s operates in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

You have the choice of two graduate programmes; the generalist programme or the claims programme. Both offer structured placements and training, as well as the opportunity to learn working alongside people who are experts in their fields. Because our work can be affected by any event, at anytime, anywhere in the world, variety is guaranteed.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for graduates from any discipline, but you’ll need to have (or be expecting) at least a 2:1. You’ll also need razor-sharp analytical skills and the ability to think creatively to be up to the challenges found in our Corporation and market. This takes a strategic mind and the ability to see the big picture while paying attention to detail. It’s equally important that you’re a personable, natural communicator who can establish trust quickly and influence decision making at the highest level.

WHAT TRAINING DO WE GIVE?

As a graduate you’ll choose between the generalist graduate programme and the claims graduate programme. Or, if you’re in your penultimate year at university, you can join us for an eight-week summer internship.

Our generalist programme is designed to let you explore the market and the Corporation. You can tailor your development to your own skills and interests, and will gain a breadth of experience to prepare you for a role in the Corporation when you complete your training.

The claims graduate programme, meanwhile, offers you fast-track development towards a career as a claims adjuster in the market (these are the skilled professionals who manage claims from their initial investigation through to conclusion by consulting with experts, negotiating and exercising strategic decision making). Ultimately the programme is designed to develop the heads of claims of the future.

Whichever graduate programme you choose, you’ll work through a series of placements. You’ll be working on live projects and taking on real responsibility from the start. Of course, we’ll make sure you’re up-to-speed on everything with a thorough induction when you join us, and continuous training and support throughout. You’ll also work towards a professional qualification. But, in a relationship-based organisation like ours, you may find that some of your most valuable learning comes from working alongside your talented colleagues – many of whom are experts in their fields.

The summer internship gives you an opportunity to gain an insight into the insurance industry by taking on a project to gain valuable experience. Impress us and (if you’re equally impressed by us) we might offer you a place on one of our graduate programmes for the following year.

WHAT BENEFITS DO WE PROVIDE?

Join us on either the generalist or claims programme next September and you’ll be rewarded for your hard work with a starting salary of £26,000 and discretionary bonuses. You’ll benefit from 25 days’ holiday entitlement, three paid days off to take part in community work, private medical insurance, pension, discounts and our subsidised restaurant, not to mention a whole range of other benefits. Plus you’ll enjoy friendly support and mentoring, as well as many social and networking events.
