"I had already been studying for a long time – my first degree in Romania and then an MSc at UCL – so one of the things that appealed to me about Customer Systems was the fact that I was out on a client site in a very short time. I applied late as I was still trying to decide whether to return to work in Romania or stay in UK, but within two weeks Customer Systems had contacted me and arranged an interview. I met the MD, Steve Austen, and Duncan Scattergood, the Operations Director and they offered me the job on the spot; after only 6 weeks training I was out on site.
I also liked the idea that Customer Systems weren’t asking for a background in computer sciences; it’s more important that consultants have an aptitude for problem solving and can communicate effectively with clients – there’s more to consultancy than the technical side. That’s what they were looking for at the interview and more effectively, I think, than through endless tests and assessment centres.
I’m very driven by being able to accomplish things, and I’ve been able to achieve that at Customer Systems. I like seeing the difference my work has made for my client, a major government body controlling standards within the health care sector. I am impressed at how quickly I was given such responsibility. Anyone joining the company should be prepared to put in some hard work, especially during the training, which is much harder than anything I’d done before. But the rewards are considerable."
