I Love My Mum :)

Ok, so as you can tell from my screenname, I love my Mum but she is not without flaw and perhaps her biggest one is constantly telling me that I nd other student are lazy.  That student life is easy and degrees are a piece of cake.  What a load of tripe!  Am I the only student who is currently working his socks off to complete exams and essays??  How does that constitute lazy!

A mum will always think you are lazy no matter how much you do.... there is just no winning... trust me i've tried!

It is a common misconception that students are lazy.  I am not saying that there are some whom are extremely lazy, but it is ridiculous to tarnish everyone with the same brush.  I have always been conscientious, which resulted in a first class honours, others who are not so diligent will suffer a weaker result.

From my experience at uni I do think a lot of students are lazy (mainly because of the state of the student houses!) I don't think they are that lazy when it comes to actually writing the essays and doing the work, though. Some people leave it 'til the last minute, but that's just usually the way they work best.

Sometimes I think that students forget that they are at university to get a degree and instead think it's about non-stop partying, true it's a big part of it but it's not the be-all-and-end-all...

Not all students are lazy. But many are. They believe that they are entitled to a good grade regardless of the quality of their work. Busting your ass from Midnight to 6am to write a paper is not "working hard". The student made the work hard by procrastinating until the last minute. They shouldn't get a good grade because they "worked hard", they should get a good grade if it is a quality paper.

It always used to annoy me when we got a "take away paper". I am not the sort of person who does nothing until the last day so I felt that these papers were a bit unfair on those who like to pace themselves when writing an essay. They tended to favour those who procrastinate!

Sure you could say the same with exams, but these were an entirely new concept and something I hadn't encountered before university!
