Anybody else stay in a catered hall?! I did and the food was horrible! A lot of the time I couldn't eat it so I ended up eating garlic bread and salad...a treat for my breath I'm sure. Though what can you really expect, lol.

It was slightly irritating that there were no meals on weekends and our kitchen was so small that it was barely possible to cook in - meaning we had to go out to eat whether we wanted to or not!

When I moved into my student house in the second year, I wondered why I didn't just go self-catered in the first place!

I had completely the opposite experience! I was put into catered halls when my preference was self-catered however it was the best thing that could have happened. We had meals 7 times a week and it was so sociable. Everyone boneded and gossiped and got to know each other over breakfast, lunch and dinner and it helped so much in making friends. I would highly recommend it if you're in a quandry about what to choose.

yes i found catered halls a luxury and the food was really quite good (and i am quite pcikt with quality). i would have a fry-up nearly every morning, lunch and dessert and dinner and dessert (sometimes going up for a second meal!). needless to say i put on weight along with beer drinking each night, but it was definately worth it
