Really like the idea of taking some time out to do some volunteering but find a lot of schemes have high administrative costs. How do the costs breakdown for GVI?

Spozza,
This is a popular concern for the vast majority of people who consider going abroad to volunteer, and rightly so, people should know where their money is being spent.
If you copy and paste the link - http://www.gvi.co.uk/about-us/how-is-my-money-spent - into your browser, there is a pdf. download that documents the cost breakdown and where your money goes.
Thanks!

Kave,
The money that a volunteer pays to join our projects enables all their costs to be covered while on the program. Volunteer funds are essential for us to continue the work we do in the field and so to cover this cost ourselves is unforunately not possible.
What I can suggest is to have a look at http://www.careersabroad.co.uk for GVI's current job openings in the field. I hope this helps, and best of luck with the job search in the future.

Stuart,
Are people allowed to set up their own websites / FB groups / etc to raise money from friends, family etc to fund volunteer work they want to do with GVI? And more so, would you offer students help with setting up such pages, etc. I think this would take away a lot of concern, but obviously I dont know how you guys feel about this...
Thanks!

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for the questions. There is no problem for people to set up their own websites, Facebook groups etc. to raise money for their volunteer program. We have had quite a few people who have done this in the past. Regards to setting up such pages, this is not something we have done before as I think people like to do their own thing when it comes to fundraising, in terms of the best way to connect with friends and family or perhaps the chance to be a bit more imaginative. It is all up to you!
Facebook in particular though, the site itself gives good instructions in how to set up a group page if this is one road you are thinking of going down.
Thanks,
Stuart
