I'm hopefully starting an internship in London at the end of the month, as it is unpaid i was wondering if there are any grants or funding that i am elegible for because its 6 months full-time long i'm going to need some sort of income.

If you are already a student you can apply for your student loan for the period you are on the internship for, i think you get roughly half of the yearly student loan allowance and it is paid through to your bank account before start of the new academic year. When i did my internship I got roughly £1,500 in student loan and got the first installment in July.

Normally if they are not paying you during the internship they will fund your accommodation and give you some sort of allowance for food. However this is something that you are going to have to discuss with the company. Alternatively have you tried to speak with the student loans service to increase the amount of money that they are giving you and if you are able to receive that money for your internship?

Is there a set guideline or written rule somewhere that states companies should give an allowance or is it at a companies discretion?
