Whats the distinction between  PhD, or Doctor of Philosophy, LLD, DSc, and DMus ? Sorry, may be a silly question!

PhD is an abreviated term for Doctor of Philosophy so there is no actual difference between these terms.  The other terms you mention are doctorates in varying subjects.  So LLD would be a doctorate in Law, Dsc- science and DMus music.
