What Will I Do on the Graduate Trainee Programme?

Man Group’s graduate programme provides a unique opportunity to gain challenging and interesting experience within a performance-driven, global investment management business by rotating through 3-4 placements within Investment Management and Sales over a two-year period.  There may also be opportunities to undertake a placement overseas.

As one of our trainees you will gain a thorough understanding of our business and having completed the programme, will be well-placed to develop a long-term career at Man Group.  Formal and on-the-job training will be provided to enable you to contribute to the business.  You will also have direct access to Man Group’s senior leadership team, as each trainee will be mentored by a member of the Executive Committee.

In the words of our recent graduates:

“The culture here is extremely open-minded and values pro-active individuals.  I circulated a summary after attending a hedge fund conference and the President of Man Group, who was interested in one of the ideas I mentioned, replied to my note with some senior figures copied in.  That is what sets this organisation apart – you are judged not on how junior you are, but on the contribution you make.”

“I worked closely with a senior portfolio manager who was a passionate mentor, teaching me about all aspects of quant investing.  I met so many smart people in this division and what impressed me the most is that they were always looking for the next idea.”

“I have been able to participate in client meetings right from the start of my placement, which has allowed me to learn a lot about client facing skills and the business in general.”

“I have already been given a lot of autonomy in my tasks, which has allowed me to dig deep in the theory while delivering solutions that worked.”

How Do I Apply?

Step 1: Click “Register and Apply” (or “Login and Apply” if you have previously registered on Man Group’s website) in order to apply for the graduate programme

Step 2: Upload 1 document to include:

  •  your current CV (no cover letter is required)
  •  your responses to the following three questions, ensuring each answer is no more than 200 words:
  1. Why do you want to join Man Group’s graduate trainee programme and why are you interested in working in asset management?
  2. What key skills do you possess/have you developed which you believe will make you a successful candidate?
  3. Describe the most challenging experience you have gone through outside of the academic world, what you learned from it and how it differentiates you from your peers?

Applications for 2017 entry must be received by Wednesday 12 October 2016.

You will hear from us by email to confirm whether your application is being progressed.  The first stage will be a pre-recorded video interview and answering these questions should take no longer than 20 minutes.  This allows us to understand more about you and means you can undertake it at a time convenient to you.  The video interviews will be managed by our partner, Sonru  and can be completed on any computer with a web cam, or on a smartphone or tablet.  Our partner Sonru provides you with a 24 hour support service in order to answer any questions you may have. If you are new to video interviewing, please rest assured that it is an easy process and your video will be secure and only available to Man Group to review. Candidates invited to a video interview will receive a personalised email containing detailed instructions in due course.

If you are successful at the video interview stage, the second stage will be an assessment day on either 28 or 30 November 2016 at our City office.  We will advise you of our decision as quickly as possible following the completion of the process, usually within 48 hours.
