Kick-start your career in finance and accountancy

Our trainee scheme gives you the opportunity to broaden your skills and career prospects, earn a good salary and achieve a professional accountancy qualification.

As a CIPFA trainee, you’ll be placed with one of our employer partners on a three-year fixed term contract – you will earn a good salary and learn valuable skills and knowledge from mentors across the organisation. What’s more, you’ll receive full sponsorship by the employer to study our Professional Accountancy Qualification.

Our trainee roles are varied and span across public services and global accountancy firms, from central and local government to the NHS, education and emergency services.

The scheme provides a fantastic opportunity for you to become a Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CPFA) and excel in your career – most of all, you’ll play a key part in managing public finances effectively and making a positive impact on society.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of three GCSEs (grades A-C) and two A-levels (grade A-C), or the Scottish or Republic of Ireland equivalents. Subjects must include Mathematics and English at either level.

We also welcome graduate applicants with finance or non-finance related Degrees, and we offer specific entry routes for AAT, IIA and CCAB qualified applicants.

If you don’t meet the academic requirements, you can apply if you’re 21 or over and have over three years’ relevant work experience and the support of your employer.

To be eligible for the CIPFA Trainee Scheme, you need to be able to work in the UK/EU without the need for visa sponsorship.
