One of the main aims of the BBC is to be the most creative organisation in the world, but to achieve this our content has to speak to all audiences. Bringing in fresh talent and new perspectives will allow us to truly reflect modern British society.

This 22 month graduate scheme is aimed at growing the best creative technologists for broadcasting. Through a series of academic modules and industrial placements we will prepare a new generation of Broadcast Engineers in order to support the future business.

Main Responsibilities

You will be on a fixed term contract with the BBC, and will get the opportunity to spend extended periods away on study or work placements with the BBC and academic partners. You’ll undertake work placements in one or more engineering teams in order to gain an understanding of the processes involved in the production and broadcast of BBC output, and the diverse technologies that make this possible. This will include digital audio & video, enterprise IT and IP networks, broadcast and production systems, as well as advanced diagnostic and maintenance skills.

You will be paid a salary by the BBC and on successful completion of the two years you will graduate with an MSc in Digital Broadcast Technology accredited by Birmingham City University

The Ideal Candidate

You will hold an honours degree (at least a 2:1 or equivalent) in Broadcast Engineering, Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Physics, Computer Science or a closely related subject, coupled with high level of logical and mathematical reasoning skills. You will bring a sound knowledge of audio, video and broadcasting principles and an understanding of the demands of a broadcasting and operational environment, as well as having a personal interest in the creative elements of broadcasting and technology.

Furthermore you will have excellent communication skills in spoken and written English, and will be able to behave in a manner that is in keeping with the BBC’s values.

About the BBC

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are very important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below. You’ll be asked questions relating to them as part of your application for this role.
