The Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award for Volunteering Overseas is a new initiative aimed at recent graduates or final year students who are looking to develop key employability skills, explore new cultures and make a real difference to the world they live in. Raleigh is able to offer you the opportunity to join a 10 week expedition where you’ll work on much needed community and environmental projects plus undertake a challenging adventure phase.
There are 300 bursary awards still available, each one worth £2000, for expeditions to Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua or India.
You will be required to fundraise £1000 towards the expedition and pay for flights, vaccinations and kit. For more information about this award, and to find out if you are eligible to apply, visit our website. (http://www.raleighinternational.org/our-expeditions/aged-17-24/graduate-bursary-award)
Benita Sabharwal joined a Raleigh expedition to Costa Rica & Nicaragua with a Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award in Autumn 2009:
Before Raleigh, I had just finished my psychology degree at the University of Reading and I was unemployed, searching for jobs and getting nowhere. I wanted to get some sort of experience or skills from it that can help me in the future with employment. I also wanted to do something I enjoyed and was passionate about.
I think Raleigh has really improved my employability skills. I have learnt how to work well with others, helping and supporting each other when we needed it. I can do a lot more than I give myself credit for and I have a lot more confidence now in what I do. Furthermore I come across more positive on application forms because now I actually believe I have the skills they are looking for and I have more unique things to say. My Raleigh experience was amazing and means so much to me. It has helped me in so many ways which I didn’t expect it to and is one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget it.
Raleigh, a youth and education charity, is endorsed by leading employers and government departments, so you don’t have to feel guilty about having the time of your life!
