About the role
Intern positions with Mercer are a fantastic opportunity for candidates to get a taste of working for a multinational consulting firm. Interns join us for a structured 8 week programme running from the beginning of July to the end of August. All work is supervised and interns are assigned buddies to help them with day-to-day work queries.
Our Actuarial Trainee’s work with a diverse range of clients, both corporate and trustee, advising on the design, funding, administration and communication of all types of retirement plans and helping our clients manage a variety of benefit plan related risks. Actuarial Trainee’s will be instrumental in driving forward the shape of future pension provisions and delivering innovative solutions to our clients, whether it be via "defined benefit" or "defined contribution" pension arrangements.
Key duties will include:
- Being involved in aspects of actuarial calculations including calculations regarding benefits for individual members of pension schemes, transfer values and early retirement quotes
- Assisting with actuarial valuations and preparation of calculations for UK company accounts
- Working with spreadsheets, data manipulations, drafting letters and general consulting work
Key skills and qualifications:
- A minimum of 300 UCAS points obtained in 3 subjects including a numerical A level at a minimum of grade B, with a 2:1 honours degree in a numerical or semi numerical subject (equivalent qualifications are accepted)
- An interest in pensions and financial markets is essential
- Ability to work in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands
- An ability to work to tight deadlines
- Ability to balance work and personal life effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills
