About the role
Intern positions with Mercer are a fantastic opportunity for candidates to get a taste of working for a multinational consulting firm. Interns join us for a structured 8 week programme running from the beginning of July to the end of August. All work is supervised and interns are assigned buddies to help them with day-to-day work queries.
As an intern joining the Financial Strategy Group (FSG) you will work as part of a team supporting more experienced analysts and consultants in a wide range of pension and risk consultancy projects for both corporate and trustee clients. As an intern, all work you carry out will be done under supervision, but you will quickly develop your knowledge and skills and more direct client responsibility can be expected as you progress.
Key duties will include:
- Assisting more senior analysts in carrying out numerical and qualitative analysis for specific client situations
- Working with spreadsheets and assisting senior analysts and consultants adapt technical modelling tools for specific client situations
- Working with a range of in-house FSG and external IT tools, and gets involved in tools research
- Drafting documents and presentations for use in client situations
Key skills and qualifications:
- A minimum of 300 UCAS points, A level numerate subject at grade B or above with a minimum 2:1 honours degree expected or obtained in any degree discipline (equivalent qualifications are accepted)
- A sound mathematical background is essential Good analytical skills and ability to work through tasks in a logical manner
- Ability to work as part of a team and build strong relationships with peers, colleagues and other Mercer businesses
- Able to take ownership for work, ensuring standards and deadlines are met and keeping others informed and up-to-date
- Able to work well under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
- Self motivated, with an eagerness to learn and to keep up-to-date with the market and development in the pension and investment industry
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills
