Mitchells and Butlers are extremely pleased to be able to offer students undertaking degrees that require a year in industry a 48 week placement in one of our businesses as a Team Leader or Team Member.
A year in one of our business will not only give you the skills you require to take your fist Management position once you graduate but also a programme of industry leading training and development opportunities.
We operate many of the most famous classic and historical pubs in the country including The Horseshoe in Glasgow - where Travis were first discovered; the White Horse at Parsons Green in London - famous for its range of cask and bottled beers and the Philharmonic in Liverpool which is full of late Victorian splendour and ornate décor.
The Placement scheme is designed for students who have a real passion and flair for the licensed retail industry and wish to join the hands–on management team and pursue a career in pub or restaurant management. The structured, year long programme will provide an opportunity to be recognised by an industry leading operator.

Entry Criteria
To apply for this scheme, you will need to be taking a year out from study as part of your course. In addition, we are looking for people who have experience at a similar level in a customer focused role.

Joining one of our Businesses
Following successful assessment, candidates are then eligible to take a position as a team leader or team member in one of our pubs, bars or restaurants. A wide range of vacancies are available across the whole country, however the more flexible candidates are the more opportunities will be available to them.
On appointment as a team leader on the 48-week Placement scheme, your job will involve;
- Training all new team members to the standard of a ‘competent’ bar person.
- Acting as a brand guardian for food and drink dispense
- Ensuring fast efficient service to all customers regarding food, drink, cash handling, till use and all aspects of customer relations
After completion of the required training you will assist the management team in the day to day running of the business.
Be awarded a place on our Retail Graduate Scheme
At the end of your placement we will analyse and assess your development over the last 48 weeks and provide feedback to you.
If you successfully complete your placement and final weeks assessment, we would love to offer you a position as an Assistant Manager in one of our businesses when you finish University on our Retail Graduate Scheme. This offer is our way of saying thank you for all your hard work and commitment.
