RETAIL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

Our strategy for retail banking is to leverage our international connectivity to deliver world class banking and wealth management solutions to our customers.

This two-year programme develops senior leaders in our retail business – Retail is a fast moving, demanding environment and you’ll need a personality to match! It takes place in one or more of our UK network of branches. During the programme, you will learn about our customers, products and processes.  In the UK, retail banking is one of our core activities. The best way to learn about what we do and how we work is to work with our customers in a branch. And that’s exactly what we’ll ask you to do.

Our branches are busy places, and there are lots of different roles and challenges. You’ll need an understanding of it all – getting to know our customers, opening accounts, dealing with mortgages and understanding our premium clients.  Alongside this, we’ll develop your ability to grow our business, raise our profile within the local community and drive income by identifying and attracting new customers and delivering superior service to our existing ones.  Throughout the programme you’ll have more opportunities to take the lead – coaching, developing and motivating others to follow your example.  You will also have the opportunity to support our customers to maximise their future wealth. You will gain a valuable insight into how we use our local knowledge and international expertise to develop innovative solutions for our customer’s future needs.  At the end of the programme you will secure your first managerial appointment either as a Retail Branch Manager, Sales & Service Manager or Premier Manager.

While we want to develop graduates as our future leaders, we’re just as keen to bring under-graduates through onto our programmes. We were the first bank to offer first year internship opportunities and
our Summer Internships offer that important first step.

FIRST YEAR SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
As the first financial services organisation to offer first year internships, we’re always leading the way. Our Internship Programmes are open to any undergraduate in their first or penultimate year of study, in any discipline.  You’ll be based in one of our branches or commercial offices nationwide (we’ll try to find one convenient to you). We’ll give you an induction, on the job training, real work within a team, plus the support of a line manager and a buddying network from our current graduate population.  The best news of all is that they include pay, and provide a potential stepping-stone into a rewarding career – perform well and we could offer you a permanent role on one of our Graduate Programmes when you graduate.  If you successfully complete our Internship in your first year and are invited back in the second, we’ll give you a £1,000 bursary when you start the Penultimate Year. And everyone on the Internship is encouraged.
