POSITION SUMMARY
RIM develops its own mobile communications stack, and as part of this the Birmingham test group is responsible for validating and maturing the cutting edge features for UMTS and UMTS/LTE interworking. The work of the group requires a deep understanding of UMTS/LTE protocols, the operation of the stack and the challenges it faces to underpin the test design, develop and analysis. The group also employs a wide range of automated processes from prolog based AI techniques for automated log analysis to semi automated techniques for requirements to test generations, and is constantly striving for opportunities for further improvement.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, dynamic and driven individual who is keen to make a career for themselves at the cutting edge of the mobile telecoms industry, and who is looking for an opportunity to prove their ability to innovate.
They will be inducted in all aspects of test design, development, execution and analysis, including formal training and on the job mentoring as appropriate. Initially they will be expected to take on responsibility for maintaining the day to day processes (which perform automated test execution and analysis), but will quickly be expected to grow beyond this and contribute to the test development work also as they acquire the requisite domain knowledge.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate with a Bachelor's Degree or Masters in Computer Science, Telecomms or Mathematics.
- Proven programming skills, ideally with a mixture of languages (esp. C, perl, prolog, python)
- Knowledge of 3GPP specifications, UMTS and mobile telecoms an advantage.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Must be motivated by problem solving and demonstrate initiative, dedication and innovation.
