EmployAbility helps promote inclusion for disabled students and graduates

Mike Barnard, 05 December 2006

Promoting inclusion in employment was the theme at the InvestAbility recruitment event in London last month.

It was organised by EmployAbility to present Investment Banks' commitment to diversity, such as providing disabled students and graduates with information on career opportunities in investment banking. There was also the chance to consider interview techniques, discuss application form writing, and ask questions about diversity in the industry.

EmployAbility, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people with disabilities into employment, offers a range of other services. It provides a range of services to employers, such as running specialist events, and manages projects with universities.

The InvestAbility event at Cabot Hall in London was the result of an initiative between EmployAbility and six leading banks: ABN Amro, Barclays Capital, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, RBS and UBS. As well as promoting the participating Investment Banks' commitment to disability, it also highlighted their forthcoming internship and graduate programmes.

Participants were impressed by InvestAbility. One said: "The opportunity to talk to recruiters, we could ask specific questions related to our disability which was invaluable". Another added that networking with graduate employers was "really useful to get individual tips". You can find out more about EmployAbility on Diversity Milkround here.
