Depending on the size, resources and policies of the particular charity, employees might benefit from short and long training courses in professional, business and technical skills, enabling them to develop, become more effective, and progress in their careers.
In addition to general skills training, employees might receive training specific to charity work, perhaps in charitable law and administration, or in fundraising or charity management.
There are also a number of relevant courses offered by postgraduate institutions. As well as courses providing technical skills and knowledge relevant to the different fields which charities work in, there are also courses specifically designed for the challenges of charity management and operations.
One example is the Professional Certificate in Management offered by the Open University Business School – which covers topics such as recruitment, motivation, teamwork, leadership, marketing and how to interpret financial information; and there are a variety of others in the field.
