Being internet savvy could be crucial to you finding your next job.
Research reveals almost half of jobseekers turn to Internet sites such as Milkround.com to find new positions as they can provide a fast response and find jobs quickly.
Talent management provider Taleo carried out the a study of 120 employees from a range of sectors, and found ‘Internet Identifiers’ to be leading the way in how today’s workers prefer to apply for jobs.
These 43 percent of workers used online tools such as applying online or sending a CV by email to get their most recent job. Other categories include ‘Hands Off Hunters’ who rely on head hunters, recruitment agencies or personal contacts to find new jobs (38 percent) and ‘Traditional Targeters’ who actively apply though the post (19 percent).
Other findings revealed 48 percent of generation Y (16 to 30-year-olds) were classed as ‘Internet Identifiers’ while jobseekers aged 46 to 65 were the most significant users of personal contacts and referrals to get jobs with 11 percent using this method.
Neil Hudspith of Taleo said: “Online search and application techniques are now the most prevalent methods with both active and passive candidates, which suggests that candidates are proactively taking charge of their search for employment. Increasingly we are seeing more candidates applying for positions through company websites.
"This also has the benefit of enabling candidates to become part of a company’s ongoing searchable talent pool, even if their initial application is not successful.”
