More than 10 percent of this year’s graduate face the prospect of being unemployed in six months time.
The Guardian reports up to 40,000 of the 300,000 graduates this summer are likely to be looking for jobs at Christmas due to the scale of the recession.
This will be double the number of new graduates unemployed at the end of last year.
Those graduates out of work will create a spike in jobless figures and has already seen a demand on the resources available at university careers services. Students are keen to do all they can to avoid being among the graduates out of work come December.
The Guardian also reports a boom in graduates opting to go travelling and avoid the worst of the recession while many who stay in the UK will have to work in bars and retail to cover the bills.
