A Fifth of Under 21s Lie On Their CVs

Nearly a fifth of under 21’s lie on their CV’s and applications.According to CV screening firm Powerchex, 18 percent of under 21’s use inaccurate details on their job applications. Entering a tough graduate market this year finalists are keen to impress and the amount of young people lying is up by four percent. The Powerchex said of nearly 5,000 applications for finance firms, 899 people had included false information. The most popular lie was graduates bumping up their degree grades to a 2:1.Other often used lies included exaggerating previous roles and being creative with responsibilities in part time jobs.Alexandra Kelly, managing director of Powerchex, said: "The pressure of the recession on job markets seems to have led more applicants to believe that they should lie or make embellished claims to get jobs."
