Construction
A saying in the construction industry goes "measure twice, cut once". Close attention to detail is vital for this industry where the slightest misjudgement can seriously affect the end results. From surveying to designing to construction itself, a fine eye is needed. Site managers are good organisers who can head up a team and meet even its most basic needs, but also have the experience to deal with the most complex builds. The abilities of most benefit to entering the construction industry include technical and practical skills, problem-solving and excellent communication.

Property & Surveying
In addition to the obvious technical skills and specialist knowledge required, communication is the one area that chartered surveyors need to be good at. Chartered surveyors often find themselves managing large projects and having to bring together large teams of people, often with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. An aptitude for maths and science is also helpful as many aspects of the building trade are highly technical. Being able to understand and then explain an architect’s plans to someone not in the trade can be a distinct advantage when settling a dispute.

Logical thinking and a high degree of organisation and problem solving are other attributes that a good chartered surveyor will have.
