Energy and utilities
The electricity sector ensures energy produced is distributed throughout the country and includes jobs such as cable joiner, electrical fitter and overhead lineworker. Similar technical roles are available in the gas sector – service and network engineers check everything runs smoothly and fix problems where necessary – and the water sector with roles including leakage, sewerage and water network operatives. Waste management jobs vary from the green-minded recycling roles to more logistical matters of waste management and refuse operative.

There are many other niche job roles available, including geophysicist or field seismologist, geoscientist, seismic interpreter, engineering geologist and wellsite geologist. These tend to require very specific degree and even postgraduate qualifications so be sure to investigate what these are in good time.
