Defence
As a graduate most applicants will enter on an officer level, so leadership is a key quality to posses. This means having excellent articulate communication skills, especially orally as orders that are given will need to be exact. In this leadership role the candidate will need to be able to motivate not only themselves but all subordinates, pushing people forward in any circumstances. Another essential trait required for this career is decision making and your ability to think clearly under extreme pressure, where your choices can mean the difference between life and death.

Aerospace
You will need to be a highly methodical thinker, but have a creative mind, to produce new products, testing techniques and manufacturing procedures. A lateral thinking can really help to be innovative. Strong mathematical and IT skills are required, specifically in CAD. A deep technical knowledge is required and a thorough insight into health and safety regulations. As a person will often be working on a single product through different stages of design and implementation, project management skills and budgetary knowledge will help. Within this there is the need to be a good leader, strong communication skills and be able to work well within teams. You will also need to keep your eyes open as products develop and new technology is bought through that you will need to know about.
