A graduate aerospace engineer can expect to start their career on £20-30k and there are really good opportunities to progress in a very competitive industry. After three to five years experience you can expect to be on £35-55k a year and this will rise up to over £60k when in management positions. Other possibilities are to become an expert in a field. This often occurs as there are so many different aspects to the industry from wing manufacturing to designing moon buggies. From this expertise you could teach or become a consultant.Through the nature of the job there are decent opportunities to travel and work abroad so a foreign language can really help.
Defence
Generally an officer will start on a salary of more than £20k and there is a clear and structured path for promotion and individuals are set targets to make promotions achievable. It is a set standard that an officer will be considered for promotion at least once a year and there is an average promotion rate in the army of once every three years. Soldiers’ careers are well managed and looked after by the tasks they are set and encouraged to progress. There are always chances to carry out further study whether it is modular masters or through open university. When joining an officer will generally follow the career path of starting as an officer cadet. Once initial training is finished an officer can then move into a Second Lieutenant position, then move through roles as Lieutenant, Captain Major and Lieutenant Colonel where you will be earning somewhere in the region of £65k a year. After this there are much more senior roles that are reached by few where you can earn more than £90k. But as the advert says “Be the best”.
