Business Intelligence
This is a wide sweeping role that has positions from analysts through to project managers. You may be involved in planning, design development/implementation or maintenance and support. Being a subject that bridges IT and business to push a company forward, there are two main focuses to this work; technical and business.

Technical
The technical roles tend to focus on the use of software, implementing databases and data storage. You will often be working alongside business analysts to design suitable processes and software that meets a company’s needs. As systems update and software progresses you will be involved in the transfer of data and upkeep of information. Software specialists will normally have knowledge of specific products knowing its limitations and capabilities so that these products can be used to match the businesses plans.

Business
A candidate that works in a more business specific role such as a business analyst needs to have specific business knowledge to make decisions and implement changes based on the data that they receive. You will also need a strong acquaintance with the industry that you are working in so that you can move the company forward. In this position there will be a lot of communication needed to gather information and implement the changes that you want, and knowing about data modelling will help.

Market Research
Within this occupation there are many different tasks to be carried out throughout a project. Firstly you will have to meet with clients to negotiate and arrange research projects and this communication will continue from start to finish and after a project. Depending on the subject of the survey research will have to be carried out and then briefs produced.

After the initial stages are concluded the survey will have to be constructed and distributed. If people are carrying out surveys then they will have to be briefed and managed. The data that is collected will have to be analysed and you will have to report your findings. There will be a need to carry out budget control and use specialised software to deal with data.
