Tesco is one of the world’s largest retailers with operations in 14 countries, employing over 492,000 people and serving millions of customers every week through more than 5,300 stores.

Since the company first used the trading name of Tesco in the 1920s, the group has expanded into different markets, different formats and different sectors, including operations in China, Thailand, India and the USA.

In the UK, Tesco now has over 2,700 stores including the Express, Metro, Extra, HomePlus and OneStop formats, with almost 300,000 staff.

Worldwide, Tesco generated sales of £67.6 billion in 2010, with pre-tax profits of £3.8 billion.
