Reporting to Manager

The team

The group specialises in assurance and advisory services for family offices and global corporates. Our family office clients include overseas family trusts, investment funds and their personal and corporate interests. Our corporate clients include multi-national groups and companies operating in the shipping, property investment, energy and technology sectors.

Role purpose

To provide a high quality service to clients in respect of the preparation and audit of statutory accounts and on occasions, other ad hoc assignments.

Core responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the objectives of an audit
  • Understand and act on basic instructions
  • Understand and perform basic tests, and complete individual tests from within PROaudit
  • Prepare a simple trial balance and identify errors in basic accounting
  • Elementary knowledge of double entry
  • Assist in the call and cast of accounts
  • Work solely on all aspects of property audits, which are of limited complexity, providing review points to manager
  • Assist in the preparation of lead schedules and audit work which includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Completing Statutory sections
  2. System notes
  3. Journal testing
  4. Capital and reserves sections
  5. Income testing
  6. Expenses testing
  • Follow any reasonable instruction by the Senior on the job
  • Perform bank reconciliations and audit bank sections
  • Prepare legible and comprehensive working papers
  • Demonstrate an understanding of working to deadlines
  • Prepare to be out of office at client sites conducting audits as and when required

Other

  • Be aware of and comply with the firm’s policies at all times
  • Record time accurately using the Practice Management System
  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training
  • Be aware of the firm’s risk management and practice assurance procedures and ensure compliance
  • Ensure continuing professional development is up to date at all times

Grade descriptor

The grade descriptors are generic and are currently being developed to find commonality across all areas of the business. Theses descriptors are provisional and subject to change.

  • May be studying towards a professional qualification or possesses commensurate professional experience
  • Undertakes basic work on client assignments under guidance of more experienced colleagues; work is subject to regular review as part of due process
  • Manages own workload in order to complete allocated tasks to time
  • Identifies issues and solutions according to prescribed processes and procedures; escalates to supervisor or manager where an issue falls outside these parameters

Attributes, requirements, skills

  • Study for an accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), or study for an accountancy qualification (AAT or equivalent)
  • Degree educated, 2:1 or above
  • Competent using MS Office
  • Team worker
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Proven planning and prioritising skills
  • Able to work under pressure with accuracy and focus
