Based at Stratford E15 or Cray House DA14 - with business travel to properties and offices across L&Q.

Salary: £26,000 pa

Enthusiasm, motivation and willingness to succeed are key characteristics for this role. The candidate will have completed a Building Services, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Energy related Bachelor or Master course. Experiences will be gained from various team members to provide varied training and a rounded knowledge, before possibly specialising within an engineering field. You’ll be supported to follow a career development programme to achieve the relevant professional qualification, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.

This is an exciting new job within the Energy and Building Services team where you will support the team of mechanical, electrical, lift and gas engineers for the delivery of the servicing contracts through external contractors. You will support the designing/preparing specifications for replacement installations to ensure full compliance with building services legislative and regulatory compliance across L&Q’s housing stock. You will also work with the engineering team monitoring the new assets being built by our development departments for adoption into our operational models.

You will be able to work with our Energy team who manage and operate our mechanical and electrical assets for a financial return.

You will have knowledge of building services and a desire to learn and develop to progress your career. You will be given the opportunity to work with our contractors to gain valuable on site and practical experience. As skills are improved, you will be charged with small projects to own and complete.

It is essential that you have good communication skills with experience of working with a variety of different stakeholders. You will be able to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders. You will need to be computer literate and be able input and retrieve data from computer management systems.

To develop and expand on building services engineering knowledge of building service systems within the L&Q portfolio with the goal of developing position within the Engineering team. Assist in the overseeing and management of L&Q Building Services Engineering contracts and contractors, aiding that the stock is managed to a high level and compliant with the relevant statutory regulations and standards. Support Engineers on improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities / Deliverables:

1.Leadership and management including customer service/ values

In conjunction with the building services team and all relevant departments, assist in leading the day to day activities of the Mechanical and Electrical service contracts and programmed works through effective selection of systems, design, specification and contract management ensuring effective compliant, quality installations.


2.Strategy/ achieving objectives

Agree objectives with the team and deliver these to facilitate professional progression. Create and follow a training programme. Assist the team to set maintenance or project strategies to improve the operation of our mechanical and electrical systems. To support the building services team to achieve objectives.


3.Working with others – internal

To learn and provide technical advice, key contract cost and information to other departments and manage Key Performance Indicators to ensure contractors perform and attain a high level of service provision, in addition to ensuring team targets are met. To support the team deliver the services to our customers.


4.Working with others – external

Work with our contractors and service partners to deliver improvement to our mechanical and electrical systems and services to our customers.


5.Budgetary responsibility

Responsible for budgeting and completing small projects, up to £20k in value. May assist with the annual budget setting. Overseeing contract works as required.



To learn and understand building services compliance requirements. Assist in ensuring H&S, regulatory & governance compliance for areas under the job holder's control.


7.Records and systems

Maintain the necessary relevant L&Q records and systems.



Manage risks associated with areas under the jobholder's control. Ensure that effective controls are in place to highlight and limit risk.
