Embark on an unmatchable financial career
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is an exceptional place in which to discover your capabilities. Committed to supporting and developing the skills of our 14,000 employees, we foster a culture of progressive ambition, where staff are encouraged to take up a multitude of training and development opportunities. And with our work taking us the length and breadth of the globe – where we seek to support national interests, British citizens and businesses – there is no saying where your career will take you. Our finance team are at the heart of this interesting remit, and it is here that you could embark on a future-defining apprenticeship.
Benefitting from the support of a highly-skilled financial team, this is a desirable opportunity to attain your professional qualifications with The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Over a 36-month period, you will therefore gain on-the-job experience on key FCO projects, including challenges such as analysing financial data and producing reports relating to your findings. You may also be asked to offer your financial expertise on resource management issues, or you may be required to validate financial plans, analyse risks and prepare proposals for Management Boards. Our collaborative team will be there to support you throughout these tasks, and with approximately 20% of your time being designated for training and assignments, you will also have plenty of time to immerse yourself in your studies. You will be offered an FCO finance specialist contract on completion of your apprenticeship.
To excel in this fast-paced apprenticeship, you will need to be highly numerate and literate, with good IT skills. Keen to learn, you will have the flexibility to move between teams in order to gain a good financial grounding across the FCO. You will also need to have the equivalent of 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths) at Grade C or above and you will either have 3 A-levels (Grades A-C in subjects such as Maths, Economics or Accounting would be preferred) or you will have successfully completed an advanced (level 4) finance apprenticeship. With the capacity to meet deadlines, you will be an analytical thinker with great organisational skills. You will also be a collaborative team player with outstanding communication capabilities.
With access to the Civil Service pension scheme and a generous benefits package that includes 34 days of holiday (inclusive of public and privilege holidays), this apprenticeship will afford you and great work/life balance – and the chance to make your mark in a fast-paced team that values agile thinkers. We want you to become a core part of our finance specialists, so put your career on the path it truly deserves and join us at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
