Amey Graduate Development Programme

Our two-year Graduate Development Programme starts you on a journey to develop your career in a challenging, dynamic and supportive work environment. We’ll give you a real role from day one, so you’ll get invaluable experience and exposure working on varied and exciting projects for a large, diverse and ambitious organisation.

We want graduates who excel in their subject and who’ll bring talent, drive and fresh thinking to help propel our business forward. In return, we’ll provide you with all the support you need to achieve your career goals, because we want you to be successful and grow your career with us.

Account overview

We’re looking for a graduate to join our HR team supporting our Highways business. This graduate programme will provide you with the tools to develop your skills and fulfil your potential, enabling you to move into an operational HR management role at the end of the programme. You’ll have the opportunity to rotate across four key areas of the business to allow you to gain exposure to and experience of many different aspects of HR.

What will this role involve?

Based in Oxford or Birmingham, you'll be involved in a diverse range of projects: from supporting the Talent team with evaluating the performance and potential of senior management, succession planning, and organisational development;, to working in an operational, generalist HR role where you will develop your employment relations skills and experience working with trade unions and clients; to joining our Group HR function where you’ll be part of the Centre of Excellence team working in a specialism such as Recruitment/Wellbeing/Reward; to a more business-focused, project-based role where you’ll be given responsibility to deliver a project and add real value to the Highways business.

What are we looking for?

We treat people as individuals. We want a range of abilities, from practicality and problem-solving to precision and creativity. That goes for diversity too. We want a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve and value the experience that you bring to our business.

It's your attitude more than your degree discipline that matters. We are looking for people with a passion for customer service; people with drive and ambition, but who also understand that they have to treat others with respect to get the best out of them; people who have an innovative way of doing things; people who understand the importance of the commercial viability of their plans.

If you like the sound of that and you are a proactive self-starter who is ambitious, driven, personable and full of energy and enthusiasm to create opportunities and question the accepted- we could be looking for you. You need the following to qualify for the programme:

  • Minimum 2:2 degree
  • Work experience (desirable)
  • Proven extra-curricular achievements
  • Creative thinking and commercial acumen
  • Drive and ambition
  • Good communication and rapport-building skills
  • Desire to study towards the CIPD Level 7
  • Eligible to work and live permanently in the UK
  • Fully geographically mobile(desirable)

We place great value on all our people and the contribution they make to our business, that’s why we aim to offer a competitive benefits package as well as supporting all graduates to gain a professional qualification through a Professional Institution. We’ll give you first class mentoring and guidance, from the industry experts you’ll be working closely with. Over two years, you’ll cover personal development, business skills and business improvement techniques. You’ll also have the chance to meet your peers and senior management from across the UK at the annual graduate conference. We’ll pay you a competitive starting salary, and if you perform well, we’ll give you a pay rise every six months whilst on the graduate programme. At the end of the programme you can expect to progress into the next level of your chosen career.
