(Junior) Software Engineer / Data Scientist

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for and take the lead on a number of projects where you will use your analytical skills to understand the given brief and foresee any technical challenges that may arise. Alongside others you will be responsible for data management, data analysis, data visualisation and interface development.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Use a combined knowledge of computer science and applications, modelling statistics, analytics and maths to solve problems
  • Extract data from multiple sources
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to perform statistical analyses, create predictive and prescriptive models
  • Help the organisation understand the principles and the maths behind Data Science to drive buy-in of the analytical solutions being developed
  • Proactively acquire data from various sources and analyse it to improve understanding of the business performance
  • Sift and analyse data from multiple angles, looking for trends that highlight problems or opportunities
  • Communicate important information and insights to the business and other group companies
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice based upon customer behaviour analysis.
  • Design, develop and evaluate advanced predictive and machine learning models with a focus on media buying
  • Conduct advanced analysis on various marketing efforts to gauge performance, impact and effectiveness against the desired results

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 2:1 degree or higher from a top university in Maths, Computer Science, Software or related area of study
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience with data management, data analysis and data visualisation
  • Experience of operating systems – Linux and Windows (shell commands) and databases: MySQLite, MongoDB
  • Programming languages: Python and R (especially packages for machine learning and data analysis)
  • Data visulisation: D3, highcharts
  • Web development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flask, Django
  • Version control system: Git (Github & Bitbucket)
  • Cloud Service and distributed systems: Amazon Web Echo-System, Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal with experience of liaising at all levels including senior contacts
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook and adeptness at learning new computer packages
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to use initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales
  • The ability to cope with pressure and work to tight deadlines
