HM Inspectorate of Prisons
HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) is an independent body with a remit to inspect prisons and other custodial establishments in England and Wales.
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Inspectorate's team of 12 social researchers. The research team provides support to HMIP’s inspection and thematic programme, including conducting surveys of detainees in advance of each inspection. This is a fast-paced research environment with a strong team-work ethos.
You will need a first or upper second class Honours degree and/or post-graduate qualification in a relevant social science (e.g Sociology, Psychology, Criminology or similar) with a substantial social research methods component. Experience of PASW (formally SPSS) and Excel essential.
Starting salary £27,682
The appointment is available initially for a fixed term of 12 months with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent contract.
This post is based in our London offices, but also requiring time away from home carrying out fieldwork in custodial establishments in England and Wales. The successful candidate will be required to be away on custodial visits, on average one or two nights each fortnight.
