About the role

The Hartree Centre is looking to recruit a talented visualisation software engineer to the Technology Support Group. You will be keen to learn and have a demonstrable interest in supporting GUI and data visualisation software plus VR and Augmented Reality. Experience with a gaming engine such as Unity and VR/AR development (e.g. HoloLens) would be beneficial.

You will have excellent communication skills to work effectively with all stakeholders from team members to users of the service. We operate a service desk according to ITIL best practice and the role will include providing L2 support. You will have full use of a state-of-the-art visualisation and VR facility.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • conduct installation, configuration and upgrades of specialist software applications for visual computing, data analytics, virtual and augmented reality environments on Windows and Linux systems
  • research and develop techniques to interactively visualise large amounts of data in real time
  • exploit technologies such as OpenGL and GPU programming, e.g. GLSL, CUDA
  • develop solutions for remote and in-situ visualisation for high performance computing

About you

It is essential that you have a degree in a scientific or technical subject or demonstrate equivalent relevant experience.

You will have extensive experience of supporting computer visualisation and/or VR systems and software and the ability to develop efficient visual computing solutions to meet project requirements and the ability to explore the use of leading edge software and hardware solutions to demonstrate new capabilities.

You will be a self-motivated individual with good organisational, problem solving and prioritisation skills.

Experience of software engineering tools and project management skills are desirable but not essential.
