About the Role

The Hartree Centre is looking to recruit talented systems administrators to the Platforms and Infrastructure Group.You will be keen to learn and have a demonstrable interest in supporting novel technology as well as a good understanding of high performance computing, data analytics and/or artificial intelligence.We operate a service desk according to ITIL best practice and the role will include providing L2 support.Experience with ITSM tools, especially ServiceNow, will be an advantage.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who can work effectively with all stakeholders from team members to users of the service.The successful candidate will report to the Group Leader, Platforms and Infrastructure Group.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine system administration tasks such as monitoring, tuning, hardware fault detection and resolution
  • Delivering professional, customer-focused, second and third line support to users of Hartree Centre services.Ensuring incident tickets are resolved or escalated within SLA targets
  • Identifying and implementing configuration changes as required, following a formal change management methodology
  • Undertaking supervised and unsupervised project work, ensuring deliverables are met on time, to specification, and within budget
  • Identifying areas for process or operational improvements such as automation.Project manage implementation of such improvements as required
  • Creating and maintaining accurate and complete documentation of procedures and configurations
  • Maintaining shift log records of activity
  • Maintaining and developing user documentation
  • Providing mentoring support to other members of the group.

The Platforms and Infrastructure Group are looking for:

  • Someone who is technically astute with a great working knowledge of Linux

Other relevant information

Successful candidates will be expected to provide out-of-hours on-call cover, on a shared rota basis.

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo National Security Vetting to SC level before being confirmed in this role. One of the requirements for this is that you have been living in the UK for at least five years.

There is a requirement for occasional travel to work related meetings within the UK.International travel may be required in exceptional circumstances.
