Overview Of Role
We are seeking a livestock technician to work as part of our small and friendly team at our Rothamsted Research, North Wyke site near Okehampton, Devon. This role requires an individual with a proven track record in cattle husbandry, tractor driving experience to include yard work (feeding & bedding) and field work (fertilising, spraying, dung spreading, silage making).
As part of the farm and field team you will assume day to day responsibility for the care and welfare of cattle on projects investigating multiple aspects of grazing livestock systems. Your duties will include feeding, bedding and the collection of numerous animal performance parameters. During the summer months you will oversee stock movements, monitor grazing pressures, apply fertilisers, manures, plant protection products and maintain drainage networks. A strong emphasis is placed on the quality of data recording and capture for all activities.
You will need to be a competent operator of agricultural machinery with experience using IT products for recording and maintaining datasets. You will need to be flexible in order to be able to work some weekends (on a rota) and out of week-time hours during busy periods. Ability to perform physically demanding work, outside and in a range of weather conditions is essential.
